Director

John has been the Director of the Institute of Welsh Affairs since 1996. He has written widely on Welsh politics, culture, and devolution. His books include Birth of Welsh Democracy (co-Editor, 2003, IWA); Building a Civic Culture: Institutional Change, Policy Development and Political Dynamics in the National Assembly for Wales (co-Editor, 2002, IWA); The National Assembly Agenda (Editor, IWA, 1998); Welsh Europeans (Seren, 1995); The Reality of Dyslexia (Cassell, 1993); The Divided Kingdom (Constable, 1988); The National Question Again - Welsh Political Identity in the 1980s (Editor, Gomer, 1985); Work in the Future (Thorsons, 1986); Creative Conflict: The Politics of Welsh Devolution (Routledge, 1978); and The Centralist Enemy (Christopher Davies, 1974).

A former journalist and television producer, John is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow with the Constitution Unit, School of Public Policy, University College, London.
   
  Kirsty Davies
Deputy Director

Kirsty joined the Institute of Welsh Affairs in September 2008, fresh from
studying Philosophy as a mature student at the University of Glamorgan. Kirsty's previous background in sales and marketing places her ideally for her role which involves raising the profile of the IWA and ensuring the future financial sustainability of the organisation. Kirsty is a County Councillor for Llandaff in Cardiff, with a passion for Welsh politics and culture.

Administrator & Company Secretary

A French graduate and qualified translator, Clare lived and worked in Canada, Egypt and London before returning to Wales in 1996. She is currently responsible for general administration of the Institute, servicing the Board and Finance and General Purposes Committee, providing support to the Branches, and organising events throughout Wales.

Finance & I.T. Officer

Helen holds a BSc in Maths and a PhD in Geometry and Computer Graphics, both from the University of Wales. She is in charge of the IWA's I.T. systems and finances, and is the IWA's Quality Manager.
   
  Nick Morris
Research Officer


Nick is Research Officer and also Assistant Editor of agenda. He was born and brought up near London and lived in Cardiff and Bristol before returning to Cardiff to study history, for which he received first class honours. He specialised in economic and social history and worked in market research before joining the IWA in 2007.
